Yasu Goes the Distance as Saints Outlast PeoplesBank, 8–5, Behind a Five-Run Fourth

Vouros and DiMichele each drive in two; Yasu scatters 12 hits across seven innings and strikes out eight to complete the sweep of the two-game series

Trey Yasu threw every pitch of it. Twelve hits, five runs, 108 pitches across seven innings — the kind of complete-game effort that requires a certain stubbornness to pull off, a refusal to yield the mound no matter what the opposing lineup keeps throwing back at you. The Saints needed every one of those outs on Friday at St. Joseph's Field, and Yasu delivered them in an 8–5 win over PeoplesBank that completes back-to-back victories over the visitors this week.

St. Joe's got on the board first in the second when Nate Carillon hit a sacrifice fly, but PeoplesBank answered in the third on a Se Allen home run to left and a Gegetskas groundout RBI to take a 2–1 lead. The Saints reset everything in the fourth. Five runs on two hits — the kind of inning where the walks and errors do as much damage as the base hits. The biggest blow was a two-run error that extended the lead, and by the time the inning was over St. Joe's had gone from trailing to leading 6–2. PeoplesBank made a run in the fifth with three more, briefly making it a one-run game, but DiMichele and Vouros each drove in two runs across the game to keep the margin comfortable, and a two-run sixth put things out of reach.

Joey DiMichele went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Jake Hayes added two hits including a triple. Greg Vouros also drove in two, working a walk and contributing in the two-hole without collecting a hit. Dillon Slattery went 1-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice. For PeoplesBank, Platner was the offensive standout with three hits in four at bats, and Hogan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Seth Allen's home run was the club's most consequential hit. Mike Rivera took the loss, departing after four innings having walked five and allowed six runs — only two earned — as the Saints found ways to score that weren't entirely his fault. Rosado tossed a clean inning in relief, and Gegetskas closed out the sixth before the Saints put it away. St. Joe's host bankESB on Monday.
